The face —and place
—of business is rapidly changing. With growing numbers of
mobile employees, remote workers, and branch offices, today’s
organizations face an expanding need to provide
line-of-business applications and data to a virtual workforce
—securely, seamlessly, and within limited budgets.
Be part of this
evolution. More and more organizations are seeking better
remote-access solutions —without the overhead of installing
and managing applications on remote PCs or the complexity and
cost of a traditional virtual private network (VPN). Help
BrenTech meet your demands with Terminal Services.
Terminal Services
functionality reduces IT complexity, supports flexibility,
increases productivity, and improves profitability for large
and small organizations.
Terminal Services in
Today’s Environment
As today’s business
environments increasingly push physical and virtual
boundaries, organizations need cost-effective solutions to
centrally manage their IT resources. More than 30 million
users at 150,000 customer organizations currently use Terminal
Services, according to Microsoft’s estimates. Technology
analyst firm IDC believes that some of the future growth in
presentation virtualization can be attributed by the following
factors*:
- Total cost of ownership (TCO). The TCO
for an individual distributed desktop ranges significantly
but in all cases is fairly expensive. Some of these costs
are driven by a distributed architecture, including
hardware, maintenance, help desk support, change environment
issues including application provisioning and patching, and
unplanned downtime. With an approximate 496 million PCs
distributed across IT environments, these costs are very
substantial.
-
Regulatory compliance
difficulties. Governments, driven by the need to protect
consumers, businesses, and government agencies have
struggled to enact laws designed to protect sensitive data.
These regulations are often complicated to comply with and
cost corporations millions. Many of these regulations are a
result of the drawbacks of a decentralized computing
environment, and many of the regulations are easier to
comply with by moving to a more centralized model. In some
regions, such as Japan, this regulatory compliance is a
primary driver for virtualizing certain components of the
desktop environment.
- Data loss. In a
decentralized computing model, computers process information
locally. To support this localized processing, a significant
amount of data needs to reside on an individual user's
computer, introducing the risk of loss. It becomes essential
for these PCs to be backed up on a regular basis, and even
the most rigorous of policies will not completely alleviate
some kind of data loss given the total failure of a local
storage device. It is unusual to speak with someone that has
had a hard drive failure on his or her corporate PC that did
not involve a certain level of data loss.
